Post Modernism

Post Modernism occurs during the time period of 1970 to 1990. In 1970 there was an oil supply cut leading there to be an energy crisis; then global recession to occur. While the modernism period was all about creating new designs and being optimistic, all that was lost once the world went into a recession. By the time it was 1980, the world was starting to improve and consumers started to buy a much as they could. With coming out of a depressing and lost of hope time, Post Modernism was needed in order to show improvement and give hope once again.   MEMPHIS MOVEMENT One movement that came out of this time is to help benefit the economy and improve peoples lives was the Memphis Movement. Continuation of Modernism in America

The second part of Modernism formed in the United States took place during the 1950s to the 1970s. During this time, historically, the United States is progressing and is the world leader in design due to the wealth gained compared to other countries after the World War II.  Designers during this time are one of the most iconic designers due to America being at the peak of technology, materials imported and made in the states, being optimistic, having diverse designs, and having wealth. Additionally, during the time designers were experimenting with different designs in furniture and most designers became successful with their experiments which caused them to be well known.  RESIDENTIAL The main architect that was focused on during this time period was Joseph Eichler who created residential homes inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Modernism in America

 Although Modernism started in Germany and France, it quickly traveled to the United States and caused the United States to progress in Modernism the most. Due to World War II, European counties became decreased economically from the wars taken place and lost of money. Therefore, this impacted the design industry as it did to many other big corporations. Since designing is more independent, designers such as Water Gropius came to the United States since the states were world leaders during this time period of 1930-1940.  DESIGN & DESIGNERS While Frank Lloyd Wright was not from a Euoprean country, he was definitely inspired by designers from European countries when designing homes and building using the modernism and international style.
